COLOUR

Confused by the terminology and various hair colouring processes used in hair salons? Worry not! We have outlined basic descriptions of the most common terms. Still unsure? Please just ask or arrange a consultation with one of our experienced Stylists.

BALAYAGE

The process of painting on highlights directly to the hair. With this technique coloured sections are placed around the head to deliver a look of naturally sun-kissed strands.

FOILS

Using foil for highlighting and lowlighting pieces of hair; ideal for achieving a more uniform look with colour that starts from the root.

HIGHLIGHTS

Partial highlights are applied to the hairline and crown. Full highlights cover the entire head.

T-SECTION

T-Section highlights target lighter colours towards the crown of the head and end with the highlight colour, midway down the follicle.

OMBRE

Meaning 'shadow' in French, Ombre is a gradient colour technique whereby the hair gradually transitions from a darker base colour at the roots through to lighter at the tips.

DEMI OR SEMI

Both are non peroxide colours, so will eventually fade or wash out.

Semi-permanent colour is more translucent, demi-permanent is more opaque.

COLOUR CORRECTION

Used to fix a bad colour or if you want to drastically change your colour.

TONER

Ammonia based, toner is a tinted solution designed to neutralize tinted tones (for example, brassy or yellow) on bleached hair, by adjusting the undertone of the hair.
